In this season of Thanksgiving, we have good reason to reflect upon this year with gratitude and joy.
This past spring, we transitioned away from Equal Justice USA, which had housed Conservatives Concerned since our founding. While we are grateful for all we accomplished together, this move empowers us to speak with a stronger voice and opens the door to exciting opportunities for growth.
In March, a Republican-sponsored bill became law in Georgia to protect people with intellectual disabilities from facing capital punishment. This victory speaks to the impact of our work on the ground educating and organizing conservatives.
We released a new video in September highlighting conservative voices who support our moratorium campaign in Oklahoma. Republican Senator Dave Rader’s moratorium bill passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee this past spring and now awaits consideration on the Senate floor.
In Texas, we helped stop the execution of Robert Roberson, who was wrongfully convicted based on the now-discredited “shaken baby” hypothesis.
And just recently, Tremane Wood was granted clemency by Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. Wood was sentenced for death for a murder he did not commit and which his co-defendant confessed to carrying out. Conservatives Concerned worked to share Tremane’s story and garner support among conservatives in Oklahoma.
While our work is far from finished, we appreciate an opportunity to pause and reflect on our impact over the past year. We’ve grateful for the strides we’ve made to share our message and reduce the use of capital punishment across the country. None of this would be possible without supporters like you.
With your ongoing partnership, we’ll continue the fight towards safer communities and a fairer justice system.
