Conservatives Concerned is officially on Substack. Give us a follow and check out our first post — a powerful piece from our Executive Director Demetrius Minor on how his journey of grief, violence, and redemption led him to this work.
Excerpt:
“The Bible is filled with deeply flawed people who caused great harm to others, yet who God redeemed. Moses was a murderer. David arranged murder. Paul was a persecutor of Christians. Yet God’s redeemable grace reached each of them without excusing the harm they caused. If redemption was possible for them, who am I, in my mere humanity, to say it is impossible for anyone else?
It is this deep conviction that profoundly shapes the work I do today. My commitment to criminal justice reform isn’t born from naïveté or some desire for some unobtainable kumbaya moment. I know firsthand what violent crime feels like. I can attest to the emptiness that settles into the family circle once a loved one is taken.
I am committed to criminal justice reform because I believe that public safety matters. I believe that victims deserve not only justice, but compassion. And I believe that everyone affected by violence crime deserves a counterview to the perspective that revenge is the antidote.
I also believe human beings are more than the worst thing they’ve ever done. Too often, our public conversations force people into opposing camps. You’re expected to choose between victims and offenders, accountability and mercy, justice and redemption.”
