Excerpt:

“…We’ve engaged them around the important questions we must ask ourselves about the death penalty system:

Do we trust the government to wield the ultimate power over a person’s life with accuracy and transparency?

If we believe that the government should be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars, does the death penalty meet that standard?

Does the death penalty actually make our communities safer, or are we just pretending that it does?

If every life possesses inherent dignity, shouldn’t that principle extend to those who have committed terrible crimes?

Many conservatives have come to the same conclusion – the death penalty doesn’t square up with our values.

These questions and conversations have informed a multitude of accomplishments over the past three years.”
