Statement: 50th Anniversary of Gregg v. Georgia

JULY 2, 2026 – Conservatives Concerned issued a statement to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of Gregg v. Georgia, a landmark Supreme Court case that ushered in the era of the modern day death penalty.

“We’ve learned a lot about the death penalty since 1976. For five decades, we’ve tinkered with the system in an effort to make it fair, accurate, and effective. Yet it continues to fail. The mounting evidence of waste, inaccuracy, and bias has shattered public confidence in the criminal justice system. Death sentences are at all-time lows and public support for the death penalty continues to decline. More and more of conservatives are questioning the death penalty and realizing it does not align with our principles and values. It’s time to do away with the death penalty and spend the next 50 years seeking a safer, more just future for our nation.”
