National Support Grows

Conservatives Concerned

September 18, 2013

We’re thrilled to welcome a new national supporter to our cause:

Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director who is now a committed pro-life advocate, recently told us, “My own story is one of redemption. I vehemently oppose the death penalty because it perpetuates the illusion that certain individuals are beyond redemption. Regardless of someone’s past actions, their life always has value. For all who are pro-life, we are called to oppose all threats to life from conception to natural death – including the death penalty.” You can read what other political leaders who support CCATDP have said here.

Meanwhile Dr. Ron Paul’s statement of support for us is still reverberating throughout conservative and libertarian circles. Media inquiries continue to roll in, as the conservative world is hungry to hear about conservatives making this principled stand. Political and thought leaders are eager to increase their involvement in our work, we are continuing to present at conferences across the nation, and we have a busy schedule coming up over the next month.

Conservatives and libertarians of all ages are working to raise awareness about the irrevocably broken death penalty process, but it seems that the youth have taken the lead. I recently wrote an article for DoubleThink Magazine, which describes how young conservatives and libertarians are at the forefront of this movement.

I was also recently a guest on the Mid Missouri Freedom Forum radio show with Mitch Richards discussing Dr. Ron Paul’s involvement, among many other conservatives, what steps we are taking, and to share our experiences. Political blogger Ian Huyett wrote an article for All Right Magazine describing the conservative case for reforming the death penalty system.

Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty’s Ben Jones recently led a well-attended workshop at the Church of the Nazarene’s Kansas City District Assembly in Olathe, Kansas and at the MidAmerican Nazarene University’s Community Fair, also in Olathe, Kansas. CCATDP got an enthusiastic reception, with lots of supporters visiting our booth to get more involved.

We’ll be an exhibitor at LPAC in Chantilly, VA on September 19-21 and at CPAC in St. Louis, MO on September 28. If you’re at either of these events please come by, we would love to see you in person. (Tickets are still available.)
