Statement by Hannah Cox, National Manager:
“As conservatives, we applaud Governor Newsom’s decision because the death penalty violates our beliefs in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and the value of life. It is rife with errors and racial bias. The number of men and women on death row who suffer from severe mental illness or impairment is shocking. Capital punishment is a failure and big government at its worst, wasting millions of dollars that could be used to solve cold cases and to make communities safer.”
This week, Conservatives Concerned participated in its seventh CPAC appearance. Our organization launched at this famous event back in 2012 and the growth since that time has been astonishing. This year’s conference did not disappoint. Check out some of these pictures from our time there!
In her latest article at Newsmax, our National Manager Hannah Cox discusses the growing amount of conservatives sponsoring repeal bills. 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for repeal with six states and counting currently considering Republican-sponsored bills to repeal the death penalty.

New Hampshire is picking up steam and is well on its way to passing death penalty repeal legislation yet again! This year, they are posed to have the votes for a veto override as well, meaning this could be the year the last state in New England with the death penalty finally says goodbye.
There are several upcoming events where local residents can get involved and show their support.
The country’s death penalty system is overrun with issues of severe mental illness. This is a growing problem and results in a system that targets the most vulnerable, not the “worst of the worst” as many falsely believe.

Statement from Hannah Cox, National Manager
Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty
“With only nine Democrats in the Wyoming House of Representatives, this vote was driven by Republicans who value life, who want to be fiscally responsible, and who believe in limiting the scope of government. This active leadership of conservative state legislators wanting to end the death penalty reflects the trend we are seeing across the country. Wyoming is the latest signal that the death penalty is on its way out and that conservatives are leading the way.”

In a recent article in the American Conservative, the former leader of CCATDP and now Director of State Government Affairs for the R Street Institute (RSI), Marc Hyden, partnered with RSI’s Arthur Rizer in a piece titled, “A Dying Shame: The State is Not God, and the Death Penalty is Not Infallible.”
The article examines the multiple issues within the death penalty system in the United States and lays out the reasons that conservatives should not only oppose capital punishment, but also champion its demise.
The R Street Institute is a growing powerhouse in Washington D.C., championing reforms in criminal justice reform, occupational licensing, and other regulatory policies. They’re voice on the problems with the death penalty is a welcomed addition that is sure to grab the attention of many.
The Christmas season is a time of reflection for many Christians. As millions across the world mark the birth of Jesus’ death, it is also a time for those of faith to examine their beliefs and the reason for the season.
In her latest article for Newsmax, the leader of CCATDP examines how some of these questions and observations caused her to reevaluate her stance on the death penalty.
From the article:
“There were other inconsistencies as well. In James 2:10 the Bible says that all sins are equal. In Romans 3:23 the Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And in Romans 6:23 the Bible says that the wages of sin is death. So if we have all sinned, all sin is equal in God’s eyes, and the wages of that sin is death, all of humanity would receive a death sentence were it not for Jesus’ sacrifice. I am no better than a murderer and neither is anyone else.”
